Gorge Hiking After Eagle Creek Fires

Last fall, almost 50,000 acres of Oregon’s magnificent Columbia River Gorge were burned because a teenager was playing with fireworks.

As a result, parts of the Gorge are extremely damaged and in need of repair, but you can still drive through without noticing the burnt landscape unless you are looking for it.

Many hiking trails throughout the Gorge have been affected so be sure to visit the U.S. Forest Service website before planning any hikes to see if your favorite trails are open.

A word to the wise: It might be very tempting to go into some of the closed areas to take a peek, but the fines are quite significant and, chances are, you will get cited.

Check out the list below to see which hikes in the Columbia River Gorge have stayed open or have been re-opened since the fire.

Thanks to the hard work of the U.S. Forest Service, some trails will re-open in 2019. We will keep this page updated as we hear more.
