Fishing at Timothy Lake

By Kelsey Samsel | Things To Do

If you haven’t gone fishing at Timothy Lake, we hope you will get the opportunity soon!

Timothy Lake is one of the largest lakes in the Mt. Hood region and is known for it’s large quantities of self-sustaining non-native brook trout, Kokanee, and crayfish.

Some of the other fish you will find in the lake include cutthroat trout, Eastern Brook Trout, and rainbow trout.

Timothy Lake is surrounded by approximately 200 campsites and is well-stocked with fish during the spring and summer months. The lake also has great bank and boat access and a stunning view of Mt. Hood.

Located deep in the Mt. Hood National Forest, Timothy Lake is only about a 45 minute drive from Whispering Woods Resort and less than 90 minutes from Portland, Oregon. If you want to grill some of the fish you catch, there are outdoor BBQ’s available at the Resort.

Things to Know

  • You are only allowed to keep 100 crayfish per day from Timothy Lake.
  • Because cutthroat trout are native to the lake, catch-and-release is recommended since there are so many other great fish to catch.
  • There’s a 10 mph speed limit for motorized boats.
