Mt. Hood recently got its first snow of the season and we could not be more excited! With snow comes skiing, snow-boarding, hot chocolate, and cozy clothes.

The Mt. Hood region is a great place for winter activities because you can easily get to multiple ski parks.  If you are looking forward to getting out and playing in the snow this year but don’t know where to start, here are three tips to help you:

1. Book Your Stay

There are several resorts and hotels in the Mt. Hood area, but we would love it if you chose to stay with us at Whispering Woods Resort in Welches.

We have 1-2 bedroom suites and townhouse-style condos with or without lofts. My personal favorite is the condo with a loft. It’s an awesome place to vacation with a group of friends.

Whispering Woods is in close proximity to The Resort at the Mountain which means you have access to their spa, golf course, and restaurants.

Whispering Woods is right off Hwy 26 and only 30 minutes away from Mt. Hood Meadows.

2. Mt. hood meadows ski pass

If you are visiting Mt. Hood to ski and snowboard, you are going to need a pass. There are a few options to choose from based on how much you will be there.

1. Five or 10 Time Pass: This pass gives you open-to-close access to Mt. Hood Meadows 5 or 10 times (depends on which you choose) at any point during ski season. This pass costs $349.*this pass if nontransferable and nonrefundable unless you purchase Pass Protection

2. Season Pass: This all-access pass lets you use the Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Lift whenever you want! The cost on this pass varies based on your age. They recently added the option to buy a Value Pass which is cheaper but it comes with restrictions. You can use the pass any day of the season but not until 3pm on Peak Days.

From the website: “Peak Days are December 15th through January 2nd, Saturdays and Sundays during January and February, Presidents Day and MLK Day.”

3. One-day lift tickets: You can also just get a lift ticket for one day if you aren’t going to be in town long. An Afternoon Adult (Age 15 – 64) 4 Hour Lift Ticket is $72. Check out their website to see prices for kids, adults over the age of 75 and a few other options.

4. Night Pass: These passes are only $159 and give you access to Mt. Hood Meadows every night they are open throughout the whole season. They are open for night skiing Wednesday-Sunday into early March.

3. start training

If you’ve never been skiing or snow boarding before, sign up for a lesson at Mt. Hood Meadows. Adult group lessons (age 13 and up) start at $62 for two hours.

If you don’t have your own gear, you can rent it from their Rental Center located on the first floor of the North Lodge.

Youth lessons (ages 4-12) start at $144 for full-day and $114 for half-day ski or snowboarding lessons.

You also have the option to sign up for a private lesson which starts at $130 for an hour or $109 if you do an early lesson at 9am.

Check out the Mt. Hood Meadows website for a few more lesson options.

So, there you have it! If you are looking forward to ski season in Oregon, start by booking your stay at Whispering Woods Resort, buying your ski passes, and setting up a lesson if needed.
