Climbing Mitchell Point

Have you ever been hiking up a massive hill absolutely certain you weren’t going to make it, and then somehow, you do? That was my experience with Mitchell Point.

Going into it, I knew it was going to be “difficult” but I had no idea. “It will be worth it”, they said… and it was. The view of the Gorge from the top of Mitchell Point is absolutely unreal.

It’s only 2.6 miles but the landscape changes drastically several times on the way up. At the beginning, it feels like a regular forest-like hike.

After that, you hit a few sections of steep, loose rock that can be pretty dangerous if you aren’t paying attention to your footing.

Beyond that, there’s a large section of tall grass to walk through before you get to the last uphill stretch to the top.

Pro tip: During the summer months, be prepared to do a tick check after your hike. We found one on our dog!

Once you get near the top, you can decide to stop at the first plateau or keep going to the very top. If you have a dog, be very careful at the top as the trail gets pretty narrow. You may be tempted to stop at the first plateau as I was, but I pressed on and it was definitely worth it.
